LFL360.com BREAKING NEWS: STORIED LFL FRANCHISE TAMPA BREEZE MOVING TO JACKSONVILLE
US’ FASTEST GROWING SPORTS LEAGUE COMING TO VETERANS MEMORIAL ARENA
(Jacksonville, FL. – Wednesday, September 26, 2012) ‘US’ fastest growing sports league’ (BusinessWeek), MTV Networks’ Lingerie Football League officials have agreed to terms with Veterans Memorial Arena to move its storied Tampa Breeze franchise to Jacksonville. The move was primarily driven by the Tampa based arena St. Pete Times Forum who took on ownership of the Arena Football League team Tampa Storm and not wanting to compete with Tampa Breeze for tickets sales now that the LFL shifted its regular season schedule to coincide with the Arena Football League schedule.
After three successful seasons of play in Tampa Bay, the Breeze are being relocated to Jacksonville and will be branded as the Jacksonville Breeze. Current Tampa Breeze players as well as fourth-year Head Coach Yo Murphy are expected to remain with the team as the team will keep operations in Tampa for the 2013 season. The team will be hosting a Open Tryout in Jacksonville to recruit a local base of players to compliment the existing All-Star packed roster.
“Ever since we hosted our 2011 Conference Playoffs in Jacksonville, we knew the potential of LFL Football in the city. With the developments at our former host arena in Tampa, we felt this was the perfect time to make the move to a proven market like Jacksonville”, said, Mitchell S. Mortaza, Founder & Chairman, Lingerie Football League, LLC.
The Jacksonville Breeze will begin play in 2013 with two home dates at Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday, March 30 and Saturday, May 25.
“This is an exciting moment for us here at Veterans Memorial Arena as we become part of one of the most exciting LIVE sports that is aggressively building momentum. We welcome the opportunity to kickoff the Jacksonville Breeze franchise”, said, Larry Wilson, General Manager, Veterans Memorial Arena.
