kickoff 6

(LAS VEGAS, NV. – Monday, September 30)  Legends Football League Global (LFL Global) officials in an effort to continue to evolve toward more traditional play, are announcing teams will kick off at the beginning of each score as well as after each half. Since the inception of the sport in 2009, there have only been two kickoffs, one to start each half of play.

Starting with the upcoming season of LFL Australia, teams will also kick off after each score. As a result, special teams will now become a greater priority in the LFL. Each of the global leagues will adopt this rule modification in 2013 / 2014.

Another major modification, there will be no regulation on the ability to onside kick at any point in the game. Until now, teams have only had the opportunity to onside kick if trailing by one point or more with less than five minutes remaining in the 4th quarter.

“Special teams are a key component of football which we feel has been relatively ignored by our teams. These rule modifications will create a greater focus on the final phase of football in the LFL”, said Mitchell S. Mortaza, Commissioner, LFL Global.
