FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY, SALERNO & ANGEL WILL DUEL AT QUARTERBACK
The LFL could easily see this match-up again in a month if the seeding lands properly for the postseason. Saturday night will be mostly about the storyline of two iconic quarterbacks facing off, as for the first time in league history former teammates with off-the-field history and drama will go head-to-head at quarterback.
Michelle Angel and Ashley Salerno are two of the most notable quarterbacks in LFL History. Salerno gained her recognition early in the league’s history by winning two Legends Cup Championships for LA, rounding out the Temptation’s three-peat. Salerno has struggled to keep her act together long enough with consistency to get LA back to the Legends Cup. It’s been seven years since LA took the field in a Legends Cup Championship.
Michelle Angel gained her notability in 2015, during the LFL’s Sixth Season in the US. With an injured Salerno during a stretch of that season, Angel filled in and everyone quickly realized LA had two of the most talented signal-callers in the game. Angel impressed and her presence was soon seen on the defensive side of the ball as well when Salerno returned later that season.
LA is healthy with wide-receiver Hallie Jiskra returning from a leg injury. The offense will look a bit different as Sherri Awagah will take the start at running back over Lopez and Johnson. Her size will be needed to move the ball against the strong Austin front, led by the Dowdy sisters on the Acoustic defense. LA is looking at using size and strength with Danielle Harvey, Chelsey Haardt, Michelle Kenny, and Hallie Jiskra all on the offensive side of the ball.
Defensively, LA looks similar to what they have been all season. First-year starter Linsdi Cash at cornerback will be an area Austin plans to expose and make plays against.
Austin showed against Seattle that they have the most talented and dangerous offensive line-up in the game right now. The best running back in league history ChrisDell ‘The Ferrari’ Harris alongside Michelle Angel is a dynamic duo. Angel threw for five touchdowns against the Mist and Harris rushed for over 100 yards in the game, consistently moving the chains. Kassandra Bills and Teshay Winfrey are two receivers with strength and great route-running ability. Their production quickly helped Acoustic fans forget about the 2018 heroics of Michelle Marshall and a Leilanni Lopez’s breakout season.
Austin’s defense is about as solid as the Chicago Bliss’ steel curtain from 2018. A fast and talented, very hard-hitting secondary with Maurissa Goldston, Rachel Washington, Kris Daniels, and Kassandra Bills- coupled with the Dowdy Sisters and Megan Hanson, is about as solid as there is defensively in the LFL.
This Week-14 game will have a big impact on the playoff scenarios. Winner of Austin and LA will clinch with three wins. If LA falls to 2-2 and keeps the score within 20 points or less, they’ll still have a good chance at clinching the playoffs but it would be out of their control. The Omaha/Atlanta Week 15 game won’t have as much implication on LA’s advancing, but LA would need Austin to beat Nashville Week 16 and the Temptation would find themselves with a #4 seed. If LA were 2-2 and Nashville beats Austin, LA would not make the playoffs.
Saturday nights game will air on YouTube August 3rd at 7 pm CST.
