Many are a buzz with the ongoing changes in the LFL this past off-season. Since the re-branding shift from ‘True Fantasy Football’ to ‘Women of the Gridiron’, some of the teams in the league, including the ladies of the Breeze, find themselves playing in a new location this year.

The result of change depends on your perception, and whether you will take it and run with it. That is what the players and coaches of the Jacksonville Breeze have done. Once known as the Tampa Breeze, the ladies of Jacksonville Breeze are moving forward into the new season with their heads held high, keeping the same determination and standards they’ve held before. The team will return with some new rookies and also some veteran players like Saige Steinmetz, who thinks that the change will benefit the ladies.

“At first [the move to Jacksonville] was upsetting and shocking, but we have played a playoff game in Jacksonville before [as the Tampa Breeze] and the crowd was sold out, so I’m expecting the same crowd.”

Steinmetz has been in the LFL and with the Breeze for three years as an OL/DL. She believes as the team pushes forward through practices and training, they will better themselves. “We are progressing very well as a team. We are becoming one.”

The coaches and players are on one accord as far change is concerned. The team location may have changed, but the mentality of the team has not.

According to quarterback KK Matheny, the Jacksonville Breeze is nothing but ready for the upcoming season. “I am excited about the new changes that are happening around the league and think the name change is great for our brand and the athletes that play in this league. This is one giant step in the right direction.”

Matheny has been with the LFL and the Breeze for three years as a QB and looks forward to the transition from Tampa to Jacksonville. “We feel extremely grateful to have been able to play in such an amazing city and venue as The Tampa Bay Times Forum. With that being said, we are now moving forward and are extremely excited about the opportunity to get to play in Jacksonville. As a team, we are looking forward to the amazing football fans of the Jacksonville area and can’t wait to show them what we got!”

Although the practices are still going to be held in Tampa, Florida this season, the team expects to make a full transition into Jacksonville by 2014. Matheny says she expects nothing but great things from her teammates and the fans of Jacksonville. “I can promise they won’t be disappointed with how exciting our games can be to watch nor with the product we bring to the field as elite female athletes!”

Expect a lot from the Jacksonville Breeze throughout the off-season and into the 2013 season as they prepare for their opening game. Be sure to look out for Saige Steinmetz and KK Matheny as they kick off the LFL season against the Atlanta Steam on Saturday March 30th at the Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville.
