PASSION BULLDOZE BREEZE 48-0 AS OFFENSE EXPLODES FOR SEVEN TOUCHDOWNS

Trenton, NJ (LFL360.com) — The Philadelphia Passion demolished the Tampa Breeze 48-0 behind the dominating performance of Marirose Roach (9 rushes/103 yards, 5 TD) and through the precise execution of their violent-hitting, no-nonsense defense that stifled the visitors at nearly every turn.

Philadelphia scored on its first drive behind the one-two punch of Marirose Roach and Jenny Butler (8 rushes/60 yards, 1 TD) with the former punishing the Tampa defense with a 10-yard- run 1:47 into the game to give the Passion a 6-0 lead. Rose then followed up her first run with a jaw-dropping 38-yard run to set up a four-yard plunge to add to the lead at 12-0 with 7:31 left in the first half. After a Jaleesa McCrary interception placed the Passion in prime scoring position, Roach capitalized, this time only needing two rushing attempts to find the 20 yards necessary to find the end zone, and, after a successful two-point conversion attempt, the home team enjoyed a 20-0 advantage. And if she wasn’t finished already, Roach once again found the end zone late in the half, her fourth of the night to that point, to put Philadelphia in an advantageous position, leading 26-0 at the break.

“Marirose Roach is the best football player on earth, male or female,” said Passion Head Coach Chandler Brown.

The second half proved to be much of the same, as Roach extended the lead almost single-handedly, powering through the running lane and pushing past the Breeze defense to add to the lead at 32-0.  And if that wasn’t enough, quarterback Christy Bell, who struggled most of the night, connected on a beautiful 18-yard touchdown pass to Stephanie Orgi with 3:47 remaining in the game. And the massacre finally ended when Jenny Butler, who had a strong complementary game to Roach, scored on a 10-yard run of her own, extending the Philadelphia advantage to 46-0. A late safety ultimately led to the final score, 48-0.

For the Tampa Breeze, who suspended four starting players for the game, the loss extends their futility streak versus Philadelphia to four. Saige Steinmetz led the way for the Breeze (6 carries/33 yards, 1 catch/17 yards), who could not shake the Stephanie Roy-led Passion defense, who closed down passing routes for Tampa starting quarterback Denisha Crawford (3 for 10, 23 yards) and her replacement, Mariah Tiona (0 for 4, 0 yards).

“As a whole, we didn’t play together and learn from our mistakes, said Tampa Breeze safety and wide receiver Liz Gorman, adding, “[Our team] just didn’t have the heart tonight.”

But for Coach Brown, the win is gratifying.  Said Brown,” It shows what happens when [coaches] are able to get [our] athletes to buy into the team concept. We all play for each other.”
