SEDUCTION 2.0

Perhaps what the San Diego Seduction needs the most to be successful next year is a compass, because if you were to watch all three games last year you would find a team lacking any sense of direction. I would like to say they ended on a quality note, but a 50-plus point beatdown by the eventual LFL champions, LA Temptation, is not the kind of bang one would want to go out with.  The Seduction had every reason to hang their heads in the offseason, throw in the proverbial towel, and relegate themselves as the mainstays at the bottom of the barrel. But, they have decided not to end their story this way.  Instead, they brought in a new coach, found a new quarterback, and adopted a new attitude towards the game, deciding to change the whole culture of the team.

But to change the culture of this team indefinitely, you are going to have make some really solid improvement, and quickly. A 53-0 beating in the first game next year against a more than capable, and highly explosive Dallas Desire, will quickly turn hope into anguish. But, to get results you are going to need players. And while new coach Eddie Chan promises a new quarterback, some questions are raised when he talks about her, “She has great natural ability.  Just needs a little seasoning.” Yet, in a culture that needs a win, or at least a good effort in the very first game to restore faith in the team, she better be seasoned and out of the oven quickly.  Add to the fact that last year’s primary receiver (and I do mean PRIMARY, as she accounted for 60 of the 79 receiving yards last year), Julie Galindo, is not returning next year, and you have a tall-order for any quarterback to come into.

But what makes this story even more interesting is that the Seduction’s second receiver, Kindra Myers, will not be returning at receiver either. Rather, she is the seasoning coach Chan was referring to: the new quarterback. And in all honesty, this is a great trade. Receivers can be found much more easily than quarterbacking talent, and if coach Chan thinks Myers has the ability, then putting a veteran in the position to lead the team could be the smartest thing he does all year. Myers is tall, ridiculously athletic, and has experience as to what it takes to be successful in the LFL.

Rarely would you say that fortunately a lot of key players from last year will not be returning, but take a look at their stats and you will find that starting over with a clean slate and new coach will not exactly be tearing down any solid foundations.  For example, they used 11 different running backs in only three games last season. And no team is so deep and talented that they can use 11 running backs and still be productive. Rather, using 11 running backs is a statement that you have none.  And when you add to the fact that last year’s starting quarterback threw for a dismal 79 yards, 0 touchdowns, and has a quarterback rating of around 6, one can see why San Diego’s offense averaged 4 points a game. Yes, 4. That is 2/3 of a touchdown. Add to the fact they allowed close to 38 points a game on defense, and you have the makings of a dismal season.

What lies ahead for the seduction is an unknown, but they say the most intriguing aspect of seduction is the mystery.

What remains to be seen, is what impact the two key players returning, Kindra Myers and Christie Burns, will have on next season. Burns only had 8 tackles last year, but has the potential to do bigger and better things, she is an athlete and a born leader. She is short, powerful, and plays with a lot of heart and determination. The latter being exactly what this team needs to dust itself off the ground from last year.  Do not be surprised if she takes over the team and has a breakout year next year. Myers needs to be a good quarterback, statistically speaking, but most importantly she has to be a great leader as well. Coach Chan has thrust upon her a great deal of responsibility, but she is perhaps the best-suited person to take the reigns and lead this young team to the postseason.

Fortunately for the Seduction, hope has also arrived in the form of a new coach, Eddie Chan, half of the coaching duo that led the LA Temptation to last year’s LFL championship. Chan promises two big things, a new quarterback, and a new culture: a culture of winning. “Losing IS NOT AN OPTION,” coach Chan stated in an interview. ”If anyone slacks off at practice, the whole team runs.  The new coaching staff will tolerate mistakes on new concepts, but if we tell you to go left and you go right, the whole team runs.” Chan is laying down the law and quickly filtering out the  players who have the heart and determination seen in the LA Temptation of last year, who appeared to have wanted the LFL championship more than any team in the league, and most importantly, got it. And although you cannot guarantee more victories on heart alone, you can guarantee 100% effort and hustle on every play of every game.

But perhaps the most important point about this whole new team, the Seduction 2.0, is the fact that they have changed the whole mindset of what it takes to be a member of the Seduction. Coach Chan promises you, the loyal fan, that these new members of the Seduction will be football players and hardcore athletes, “they aren’t just a bunch of “Pretty Girls” on the field. “ Chan says, “They’re Pretty Girls that want to kick ass!” Which, if you are a Seduction fan, is exactly what you want to hear coming from your new head coach.
