SEATTLE (LFL360.com) — After a well-deserved break, the Seattle Mist resumed regular scheduled practice in pads on Tuesday. Coach Chris Michaelson, returning from a trip, reverted back to his crafty self, observing practice from afar, probably cringing at the sight of well-thrown balls slipping through a number of different receivers’ hands.
Now, maybe it’s just me, but the fact that the Mist’s first game of the season is in Green Bay against the expansion Chill, across the street from the Lambeau Field or a combination of both, one could almost see Coach Michaelson channeling his inner Vince Lombardi as he instructed his young group of players. “Winning is not a sometime thing, it is an all the time thing. You don’t do things right once in a while…you do them right all the time”, remarks Michaelson.
Holding true to form it was another rigorous day in Mist camp; “Hard Knocks” style. As practice progressed, the staff saw a number of promising signs from rookies on the practice squad. When it comes down to final cuts, the Mist coaching staff will certainly have their hands full.
Speaking of signs, it appears now that the quarterbacks have to learn some of the hand signals that will correlate with their complex playbook.
The signal-callers were looking exceptionally sharp. Tiffany Ford has made major strides this off-season, though at times she tends to keep her elbow low which forces her delivery to look as if she’s “shot-putting” the ball. Ford is definitely going to make Coach Chris Michaelson have one hard decision on the starting quarterback spot.
And now, with the news of Laurel Creel reportedly returning to the Mist coupled with the emergence of the highly-touted Angela Rypien, Mist fans may finally have a reason to truly believe in the staying power of this critical position on this team, this season.
Speaking of Angela Rypien, the rookie is looking to make her mark in a big way this season. Mist correspondents Pete Richmire and Tone Young recently caught up with the phenom to discuss her Super Bowl MVP father’s influence in her life and on her game, an inside look into her journey to this point and what she thinks she can do to help the Mist make the playoffs this season.
