LAS VEGAS – If the Philadelphia Passion hope to avenge last year’s one-point Lingerie Bowl VIII defeat to the Los Angeles Temptation, they will have to do so without their best player, Marirose Roach. The Passion running back/safety sustained a significant neck injury late in the first half in Sunday afternoon’s Eastern Conference Championship against the Tampa Breeze.
Roach did play most of the second half of the game, but Philadelphia officials indicate that she woke up the following day with discomfort. She is expected to make a full recovery, but a team spokesman was hesitant to put a concrete time-frame on her recovery.
Roach is widely considered as the premiere offensive weapon in the league, netting a league-high 18 touchdowns, 441 total yards and a league leading four interceptions.
Jenny Butler is expected to take Roach’s place in the starting lineup but Passion Head Coach Chandler Brown has not yet indicated who will start in her place at safety.
